Alumni Student Scholarships are the direct result of the generosity of RIC Alumni toward our current and future students. Understand the scholarships offered, get your questions answered by our FAQs, and apply during our open application period!

Our scholarship application period is now closed. When our application period reopens, you'll easily complete just 1 application form to be considered for all available scholarships.

Types of Grants and Scholarships

Purpose

The RICochet Emergency Grant Fund assists students with financial emergencies so they may remain in college and successfully graduate. Need-based grants of up to $1,000 will be made to cover such emergencies as:

  • educational expenses
  • health
  • housing
  • child care

We would like to thank our generous donors, alumni of Rhode Island College, who contribute to this fund to help current students at RIC facing financial hardships.

These scholarships are awarded to students entering Rhode Island College as a freshman. The scholarships are for one (1) year and are not automatically renewed. All scholarship awardees are selected by the Alumni Association Scholarship Committee.


Incoming Freshman Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a child or grandchild of a RIC graduate.

Requirements
  • enrolled with 12 credit hours or more for fall semester 
  • typed essay, minimum 250 words addressing how a Rhode Island College education will help you accomplish your goals 
  • list of extracurricular involvements including, but not limited to, school activities, community service, and employment  

Please note: Past awards have ranged from $200 - $1,000.


Frank & Agnes Campbell ’46 Scholarship  

This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen who plan to pursue a career in teaching.  

Requirements
  • enrolled with 12 credit hours or more for fall semester 
  • provide graduation class ranking (applicants must rank in the top 25% of their high school graduating class) 
  • education is indicated as their intended curriculum  
  • typed essay addressing why you aspire to become a teacher&
  • 3 references (minimum of 2 must come from your high school, include names, titles and telephone numbers) 
  • list of extracurricular involvements including, but not limited to, school activities, community service, and employment  

Please note: Past awards have ranged from $750 - $1,500.

These scholarships are awarded to current freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and graduate students. The scholarships are for one (1) year and are not automatically renewed. All scholarship awardees are selected by the Alumni Association Scholarship Committee.


RIC Alumni Scholarship

Requirements
  • enrolled with 12 credit hours or more for fall semester
  • currently completing freshmen, sophomore or junior year
  • cumulative GPA 2.75 or higher
  • typed essay (minimum 250 words) addressing your accomplishments from your time at RIC and how the scholarship will help you finish achieving your goals
  • list of extracurricular involvements including, but not limited to, school activities, community service, and employment  

Please note: Past awards ranged from $250 - $2,000.


Noreen Ackerman ’80 Scholarship

Requirements
  • enrolled with 12 credit hours or more for fall semester 
  • Rhode Island resident
  • entering sophomore, junior or senior year
  • cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher
  • typed essay (maximum 500 words) addressing if given the scholarship, how will you give back your time and talent to Rhode Island College and your community
  • list of extracurricular involvements including, but not limited to, school activities, community service, and employment 

Award totals $1,379.


Alumni Graduate Award

Requirements
  • enrolled as a full-time graduate student in a RIC Master’s degree program (9 credit hours or more)
  • typed essay addressing your accomplishments at Rhode Island College and how this scholarship will benefit your career goals
  • information on your current graduate program and number of credits you earned as an undergraduate of RIC
  • list of extracurricular involvements including, but not limited to, school activities, community service, and employment

Please note: Past awards ranged from $500&- $1,500. Graduate Assistants are not eligible to apply.


Alumni Children Academic Award

Requirements

This scholarship is awarded to a child or grandchild of a RIC graduate, enrolled full-time at the college during the academic year.

  • based on the highest GPA of applicants
  • one award is distributed to freshmen returning as a sophomore (approximately 30 credits earned)
  • one award is distributed to a sophomore returning as a junior (approximately 60 credits earned)
  • one award is distributed to a junior returning as a senior (approximately 90 credits earned)
  • no essay required

Award totals $2,000, up to three awards given annually.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your scholarship/award will be divided in half. One portion for the fall semester and the other portion for the spring semester during the academic year. For example, if you are awarded $1,000, $500 will go into each semester, fall and spring.

These scholarships are sponsored by Rhode Island College Alumni.

The Alumni Association's Scholarship Committee reviews each application per scholarship/award to determine who will receive a scholarship. The names are not shared with the committee until they choose all awardees.
